Michael Jackson's 'This Is It' - Preview

The A List | MySpace Video

Michael Jackson's This Is It[6] is a 2009 American concert film documenting Michael Jackson's rehearsals of the concert series of the same name (scheduled to start on July 13, 2009, but cancelled because of his death on June 25, 2009), both on stage and behind the scenes. The film shows Jackson mentoring his team for the 50 shows, as well as him creating, developing, and ultimately staging the high-tech performances. The film's director Ortega confirmed that when Jackson had filmed footage of himself rehearsing that he never had the intention of releasing it to the public, but after Jackson's death, it was agreed that the film be made and released for Jackson's fans. The footage was filmed at The Forum and the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Despite originally being set for an October 30, 2009, release date, the film's release date was rescheduled for October 28, 2009; due to a strong demand by Jackson's fans. The was given a wide worldwide release and a limited two-week theatrical run from October 28, to November 12, 2009. Tickets went on sale a month early on September 27, 2009, to satisfy a high anticipated demand.

Since the confirmation of the film, AEG Live had faced criticism mostly consisting of theories that they'd only made the film solely for them to be able to make a profit off Jackson. Multiple members of Jackson's family had confirmed that they didn't support the film and some family members went as far as to try to stop the film agreement in August. The film has also been surrounded by multiple controversies, including a Jackson body double hoax; which Sony denied, and an outrage from Jackson fans; with some going as far as to start a protest against the film.

On August 10, 2009, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff approved a deal between Michael Jackson's estate, concert promoter AEG Live, and Sony Pictures. This allowed Sony Pictures to edit the hundreds of hours of rehearsal footage needed to create the motion picture. Sony subsequently paid $60 million for the film rights.[7] The trailer first premiered during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards on September 13, 2009, along with the simultaneous launching of the film's official website.[8] To date, the film has broken numerous box office records via tickets sales worldwide. The film was released to positive reviews from both critics and Jackson fans, negative responses mainly consisted of people having felt that the film was made just to profit off Jackson's death and that Jackson wouldn't have wanted the film released because he was a "perfectionist".

Snoop Dogg speaks on Dre and Game working together again.

Snoop stopped through Big Boy’s neighborhood and shed some light on the rumors of Dr. Dre and The game working together again. He also goes on to speak about the unity that he tries to bring among the West coast.

The Game, who posted the picture to his Twitter account along with the message: “CAN U SAY “DETOX” ??? IN THE STUDIO WIT DRE & SNOOP. WE BOUT 2 MAKE A LOT OF PEOPLE MAD. RIDE WIT US OR GET RAN OVER! AFTERMATH OR DIE!”, had the internet buzzing not only because people were excited to see that this album might actually still be happening, but because it was the first time Dre (who’s usually pretty camera shy) was pictured with Game in a long while. The two previously had some beef and weren’t speaking with one another for a while.

Snoop admits that he’s responsible for reuniting the pair not only in the flesh but also on a new track slated for Detox. “They needed me to get in contact with Game,” said Snoop, “I had the number in my phone and I shot that that way and they called him and once he got there him and Dre hollered and they got a great relationship.”

Detox has been in the making for close to 10 years and there has yet to be an official release date for it, but this reunion appears to be a good sign for progress on the album. -Brooklyne Gipson

Darrion Albert dies at 16 years old R.I.P

People were stunned and saddened after seeing the chilling video of the fatal beating of 16-year old Chicago student, Darrion Albert. A cellphone camera caught footage of the honor student being hit over the head with a 2x4 and then being punched, kicked and stomped to death. The boy's tragic story touched the hearts and minds of millions and apparently made it's mark on the Hip-Hop community as one of the most respected and prolific artists of our time is speaking out about the incident.

Nas penned an open letter to the youth involved in the incident for Global Grind. Young Escobar reflected on his younger days seeing senseless violence and attempted to relate to the children he deems as “young warriors.”

Dear Young Warriors fighting the wrong wars! Killing each other is definitely played out. Being hurt from the lost of a love one was never cool.

Dear Young Warriors fighting the wrong war! I know that feeling, that frustration with life and needing to take it out on someone, any one. But....

We chose the dumbest things to go the hardest for. I remember seeing deaths over 8 ball jackets, Fila sneakers, and name plate chains. Deaths over "he say, she say"!!!!! "I'm from this block or I'm from that block", or "my moms n pops is f*cked up now the whole world gotta pay"!!!

I remember feeling like I was the hardest "n*gga" breathing. And I couldn't wait to prove it. But let's think. What are we really proving?? And proving what to who?? Everybody knows Chicago breeds the strongest of the strong but I just feel, me, being ya brother from another state feels your pain as if I grew up with you in ya very own household.

You have the ability and mindpower to change they way we are looked at. Look who's watching us young warriors, look who's throwing us in jail constantly, look at the ignorance in the world. Look at the racist dogs who love to see us down. Loving to bury us in the ground or in jail where we continue this worthless war on one another.

Young warriors.... We are WASTING more and more time. We gotta get on our jobs and take over the world. Cuz this movie left the theaters years ago, Juice, Menace, Boys n the Hood , Blood n Blood Out, Belly!

When we see each other why do we see hatred? Why were we born in a storm, born soldiers, WARRIORS....and instead of building each other up we are at war with each other.. May the soul of this young person find peace with the almighty. I'm with you young warriors. You're me and I'm you. But trust me! you are fighting the wrong war.

This sh*t sucks !!

-Nas
